Azerbaijani military blocks Armenia-Karabakh road

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Azerbaijani armed forces blocked the Armenia-Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) road between the villages of Aghavno and Tegh overnight, the Karabakh police said in a statement on Thursday, March 30.

A new dirt road from Tegh to the village of Kornidzor in Armenia’s Syunik province is already ready, which in August will connect with the Kornidzor-Hin Shen road (Berdzor or Lachin Corridor”). Armenia is currently asphalting the Tegh-Kornidzor road.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Karabakh said Thursday that the Tegh-Kornidzor dirt road is passable and given the ongoing blockade of Artsakh, it is possible to carry out humanitarian supplies to Artsakh with the help of Russian peacekeepers and the International Committee of the Red Cross. Said road is controlled by Russian peacekeeping troops.

Since December 12, the sole road connecting Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia - the Lachin Corridor - has been blocked by self-described Azerbaijani environmentalists. Karabakh residents have reported food and fuel shortages, while hospital patients don't have access to essential medicines, with only a handful allowed transfer to facilities in Armenia proper.
