Ex-President’s foreign citizenship case still under investigation![]() April 4, 2025 - 15:39 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The investigation into former President Armen Sarkissian’s alleged foreign citizenship is still in progress, Armenia’s Investigative Committee has confirmed, according to Sputnik Armenia. Previously, the National Security Service of Armenia announced that the criminal case involving Sarkissian had been transferred to the Investigative Committee due to jurisdiction. No further details have been provided by the committee. Armen Sarkissian served as Armenia’s fourth president from 2018 to 2022. On January 23, 2022, he resigned, stating that the presidential office lacked the authority needed to influence the country’s internal and external political developments effectively. The next day, Hetq.am published an article claiming that Sargsyan had held citizenship of the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis prior to becoming president. The report stated that this foreign citizenship disqualified him from being eligible for the presidency. According to the source, Sarkissian had acquired the citizenship under an investment program, allegedly in return for a contribution of about 500,000 U.S. dollars. ![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult.
