India offers to send 40,000 students to Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - India expressed readiness to send as many as 40,000 students to Armenia for education, according to Armenian National Assembly Deputy Speaker Hakob Arshakyan.

Speaking at the APRI Armenia conference, Arshakyan noted that the proposal was presented by the chairman of the upper house of India’s Parliament during discussions on the consequences of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, reports Sputnik Armenia.

"Frankly, I was surprised. We simply don’t have the capacity to host 40,000 students. That’s why building such capacity is crucial when partnering with a major country like India," Arshakyan stated.

He emphasized that this opportunity is closely tied to Armenia's ongoing Academic City project, aimed at expanding educational infrastructure.

"Currently, 3,000 Indian students are studying in Armenia. That number could reach 30,000 or even 60,000, if we build the necessary capacity. They are eager to study here," the deputy speaker added.

Arshakyan also highlighted continued cooperation between Armenia and India in various other sectors.

The Armenian government is developing an Academic City to consolidate universities and research centers in a unified zone. Planned for Yerevan’s 17th district and the former “Hayfilm” site, the project includes a railway station and tram lines. Initial phases also envision a stadium and a multifunctional concert hall.
