MP: disclosure of Karabakh proposals will expose why talks failed

PanARMENIAN.Net - Tigran Abrahamyan, MP from the I Have Honor faction, responded to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s recent press conference by stating that several key questions remain unanswered. He emphasized that the publication of the full negotiation packages, especially from 2019, would clarify the circumstances behind the failure of the Karabakh peace process.

He pointed out that in 2019—just a year before the war—the Armenian response to proposals from mediating countries remained shrouded in mystery. “Initially, the authorities denied the existence of such documents. Later, after confirmation by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, they were forced to acknowledge them—but only to deflect responsibility, not to address the content,” Abrahamyan wrote in a Facebook post.

He recalled that former President Serzh Sargsyan, in response to what he described as distortions by the current leadership regarding the Karabakh talks, had repeatedly called for the full disclosure of all negotiation materials, including the ones received in 2019. However, the current authorities have refused to do so, citing “various primitive reasons.”

Abrahamyan argued that publishing these documents would allow a more objective assessment of the three-decade-long negotiation process and help accurately determine why, how, and under what conditions the peace process collapsed, leading to the 2020 war.

In his press conference, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan denied claims that he received any new proposals from the OSCE Minsk Group during his tenure. “I received no offers from the OSCE Minsk Group. I’ve said this publicly. What I did receive were remnants of proposals made to Serzh Sargsyan. The document people refer to starts with ‘The Presidents of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan…’ It was addressed to the Armenian president, and I have never been the president,” Pashinyan stated.
