Trump, Pashinyan, Aliyev to hold trilateral talks in Washington

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will travel to the United States on August 7–8, according to the Armenian government’s press service.

“In Washington, Prime Minister Pashinyan will hold a bilateral meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump aimed at deepening the Armenia–U.S. strategic partnership, as well as a trilateral meeting with President Trump and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to promote peace, prosperity, and economic cooperation in the region,” the statement reads.

According to The Washington Post, two senior White House officials confirmed that on August 8, President Trump will host both Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the White House.

One of the officials, speaking anonymously, told the newspaper that the meeting might include an announcement of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. However, it remains unclear whether this would be a formal signing of the peace deal negotiated months ago or merely a verbal declaration.

U.S. Middle East analyst Michael Scott Doran posted the meeting schedule on X. On August 8, Trump is set to meet Pashinyan at 2:30 p.m. Washington time, followed by a meeting with Aliyev roughly an hour later. Trump is then expected to make a statement alongside both leaders.

Earlier in his campaign, Trump had harshly criticized his opponent Kamala Harris on Truth Social, blaming her for “doing nothing during the brutal persecution and forced displacement of 120,000 Armenian Christians from Artsakh.” He pledged to “end the violence and ethnic cleansing,” and added, “We will restore peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.”

Reports of the planned meeting first appeared earlier this week in Azerbaijani media. Turkish analyst Ragip Soylu also discussed the topic in an article published on Middle East Eye.
