Armenia-EU relations progress, future steps under review

PanARMENIAN.Net - On October 2, during the 7th European Political Community summit in Copenhagen, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola to discuss ongoing Armenia–European Union cooperation and prospects for its expansion.

Both sides highlighted the importance of implementing joint projects aimed at strengthening democracy, the rule of law, regional stability, and economic development.

Pashinyan emphasized the European Parliament’s consistent attention and support for Armenia, underlining the importance of deepening ties with the EU and advancing the partnership agenda.

Metsola reaffirmed the European Parliament’s readiness to continue supporting Armenia in carrying out democratic reforms, enhancing institutional capacity, and advancing the peace agenda.

The meeting also included discussions on the regional situation, the implementation of agreements reached during the Washington peace summit, and the TRIPP initiative.

On March 26, Armenia’s National Assembly passed a bill in its second and final reading to initiate the process of joining the EU. The government approved the draft on January 9, submitted by the civil initiative Eurovote. However, the EU has not yet extended an official invitation for accession. Opposition parties have criticized the legislation as legally unsound. The President of Armenia signed the bill into law.
