Armenia, EU sign new partnership agenda

Armenia and the European Union signed a new strategic partnership agenda following the EU-Armenia Partnership Council session held in Brussels. The document was signed by Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.

Speaking to reporters, Kallas said, “We will cooperate in the fields of visa liberalization and security. The year 2025 is significant for your country as the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict has ended, and the EU supports you in this process. I am announcing a €15 million allocation aimed at peace and a more resilient Armenia.”

She noted that the €15 million will fund several initiatives, from demining operations to EU-supported programs targeting hybrid threats, according to Sputnik Armenia.

Mirzoyan, in turn, stressed that Armenia-EU cooperation goes beyond the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA). He expressed hope that Armenia would soon establish a visa-free regime with EU member states.

On security cooperation, Mirzoyan noted that the first assistance package aimed at strengthening peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan has already been delivered.

Separately, the European Commission’s Deputy Director-General for Migration and Home Affairs, Johannes Luchner, handed Armenia’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Arpine Sargsyan, an action plan for the visa liberalization dialogue. The plan outlines reforms Armenia must implement in areas such as security, border control, and human rights.
