David Minasyan moved to prison in wheelchair

PanARMENIAN.Net - David Minasyan, who has been in custody since the incident at Yerevan’s St. Anna Church, was taken by wheelchair from Nairi Medical Center to a penitentiary institution, his defense lawyer Varduhi Elbakyan said, Sputnik Armenia reports.

“It was completely unexpected for us that David would be transferred to a penitentiary institution. David was not in a condition to be moved; he has not walked for 10 days, he cannot move his head properly, and he is in severe pain. They removed the catheter from David’s arm and took him away,” the lawyer said.

Although his health condition has improved somewhat compared with several days ago, Elbakyan said doctors had warned that he needed to remain under their supervision.

David Minasyan, 18, has been diagnosed with a closed craniocerebral injury and a concussion.

On March 29, an incident occurred at St. Anna Church involving Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Some time later, 18-year-old twin brothers David and Mikayel Minasyan, as well as public figure Gevorg Gevorgyan, were taken in on suspicion of hooliganism and interfering with the lawful official and political activities of an official. In total, three people were detained.

As a preventive measure, Mikayel Minasyan and Gevorg Gevorgyan were banned from leaving and released on bail of 5 million drams. David Minasyan, meanwhile, was remanded in custody for two months on April 1. On April 3, he was transferred from Armavir penitentiary to Abovyan penitentiary in order to continue his education. It was later reported that his health condition had deteriorated, after which he was taken to Abovyan Medical Center and then to Nairi Medical Center.
