Ex-FM calls for “collective opposition” idea

PanARMENIAN.Net - Former Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian has called for forming and strengthening the idea of a “collective opposition” in public consciousness.

According to him, it is necessary to ensure that the ruling party does not even pass the threshold to enter parliament.

“Ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7, the opposition field has largely already taken shape. Their lists have been published and their programs presented. A common agenda is evident in these programs — peace, economic development, overcoming poverty, restoring justice, national revival, and unity.

Now that the foundation is laid, it is time to form and consolidate the idea of a ‘collective opposition’ in public consciousness. This is no longer about individual efforts, but about a shared goal. I am convinced that this collective opposition will win the elections.

However, winning alone is not enough. A higher benchmark must be set. I mentioned this in my previous post and will continue to repeat it. The goal should not only be to prevent [Prime Minister] Nikol Pashinyan from reproducing his power, but also to ensure that his party does not even pass the parliamentary threshold.

Only then will we be able to finally close the chapter of the past eight years, leaving that period and its memory in history,” the statement said.

Parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 7, 2026.
