Simonyan to meet Azerbaijani counterpart in Istanbul

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan will travel to Turkey in April to attend the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

He said meetings are planned on the sidelines of the event with counterparts from Azerbaijan and Georgia.

“Meetings are planned with colleagues from Azerbaijan and Georgia. Matvienko will also be there. I assume we will communicate there,” Simonyan said.

He also noted that no political issues were discussed during his April 7 phone call with Valentina Matvienko, Chairwoman of Russia’s Federation Council, Sputnik Armenia reported.

“The call was on the occasion of my colleague’s birthday, and I must say I have very good and respectful relations with the head of the Federation Council. We speak openly, directly, and with mutual respect. This time the conversation was mainly personal, related to the birthday,” Simonyan said.

The 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union will take place in Istanbul on April 16–19.
