Parliament to convene despite opposition boycott![]() June 9, 2026 - 11:14 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Parliament will convene even if opposition parties refuse to take up their parliamentary mandates, Central Electoral Commission Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan said in an interview with Armenia’s Public Television. He noted that otherwise, after every election, political forces dissatisfied with the results could obstruct the allocation of mandates, leading to endless cycles of electoral procedures. Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission will announce the final results of the parliamentary elections on June 14, while the first session of the newly elected parliament is scheduled to convene on August 2. By June 11, the commission will conduct vote recounts, review submitted complaints, and complete all verification and adjustment procedures. According to preliminary results of Armenia’s June 7 National Assembly elections, the vote distribution was as follows: Civil Contract – 49.825%, Strong Armenia – 23.281%, Hayastan Alliance – 9.934%, Prosperous Armenia – 3.996%. Under these updated figures, Prosperous Armenia has not cleared the 4% threshold required for political parties. However, the party has initiated a recount and could still secure representation in parliament. Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution. President of the Armenian parliament Alen Simonyan met with the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. Partner news |
