EU ambassador welcomes Osipyan’s release

PanARMENIAN.Net - Vassilis Maragos, the European Union Ambassador to Armenia, has welcomed the release of Artsakh-born political figure Artur Osipyan.

The ambassador announced his position in a post on X, stating that the EU would continue to follow developments in the case.

“I welcome the decision to release Artur Osipyan. This is a positive development. Respect for democracy, fundamental rights, due process and freedom of expression are a key part of the shared values of the European Union and Armenia. We will continue to follow the case,” Maragos wrote.

On June 5, Maragos discussed Osipyan’s case with Armenia’s Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan.

Artur Osipyan was detained following an altercation with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and spent 23 days in Nubarashen Penitentiary before being released from custody on the evening of June 10. He has been on a hunger strike for more than 20 days, demanding that Pashinyan apologize for calling him a “fugitive” and insulting him.
