Hayastan Alliance seeks recusal of CC judge

PanARMENIAN.Net - Hovhannes Khudoyan, legal representative of the Hayastan Alliance at the Constitutional Court, said the alliance is preparing to file a motion requesting that Judge Seda Safaryan be barred from participating in the trial set to begin on June 26.

The request is based on concerns regarding the judge’s possible bias, RFE/RL reported.

During the 2021 parliamentary elections, Safaryan was included in the electoral list of the Shirinyan-Babajanyan Alliance of Democrats. At the same time, the For the Republic Party, led by Arman Babajanyan, is also challenging the election results before the Constitutional Court.

By decision of the Constitutional Court, judges Vladimir Vardanyan and Artak Zeynalyan will not participate in the examination of appeals submitted by seven political forces because, according to the court, they have “a prejudicial attitude” toward the parties involved in the proceedings.

Vladimir Vardanyan joined the Constitutional Court from the National Assembly, where he represented the ruling Civil Contract faction. Before being elected a Constitutional Court judge, Artak Zeynalyan was a member of the Republic Party led by Aram Sargsyan and of the party’s faction in the Yerevan City Council.
