
The Armenian government will allocate 177.82 million drams from the state budget for the design and cost-estimation work of a UEFA-compliant stadium in Ijevan with a capacity of 10,000 spectators, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan announced at today's Cabinet meeting, according to Sputnik Armenia.
Armenia and Georgia have submitted a joint bid to host the 2029 FIFA U-20 World Cup. As part of the preparations, stadiums in several Armenian cities are being renovated, reconstructed or newly built. Up to 20 matches are planned to be held in Yerevan, while Vanadzor and Ijevan together are expected to host up to 10 matches.
Andreasyan said that once the design and cost-estimation work is completed, the necessary decisions regarding the construction phase will be made.
The minister noted that construction of the Ijevan stadium is expected to be completed by January 2029.
She also said that FIFA will provide professional support to ensure the proper implementation of this project and other preparations related to the tournament. FIFA representatives are expected to visit Armenia at the end of August this year to assess the progress made.
The 2029 FIFA U-20 World Cup is scheduled to take place in September and October 2029.
