Lawyer says captive Ludwig Mkrtchyan fights for his life

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian prisoner of war Ludwig Mkrtchyan, held in a Baku prison, is fighting for his life, his lawyer Luciana Minassian said.

She disclosed details about the health of the 56-year-old, saying his leukocyte count is almost twice the normal level and that he is suffering from a widespread inflammatory process.

“His heart is affected: left ventricular hypertrophy, diastolic dysfunction and aortic insufficiency, along with recurring headaches, dizziness, chest pain and high blood pressure. All this is concealed behind the official conclusion that his ‘condition is stable.’ No real treatment,” Minassian wrote.

She added that this amounted to deliberate medical neglect of a prisoner of war captured in 2020.

Minassian also said representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross are unable to visit Ludwig Mkrtchyan because the organization’s delegation in Azerbaijan has been closed.

“Act immediately. Demand independent doctors and urgent care,” the lawyer wrote.

The Baku Military Court sentenced captured Ludwig Mkrtchyan to 20 years in prison.
