'Odysseus' series to film in Armenia![]() July 17, 2026 - 12:05 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Parts of the upcoming international television series "Odysseus," based on Homer's epic "The Odyssey," will be filmed in Armenia alongside locations in Greece. According to Deadline, the project is being developed by Athens-based Tanweer Productions, the U.S. production company Tectonic, and the Armenian broadcaster USATV, which operates in the United States. The series is led by showrunner Karl Gajdusek, who served as executive producer on the first season of Stranger Things, Armenpress reported. The creators describe the production as a fresh, grounded interpretation of Homer's classic. Rather than emphasizing mythology, the series will portray the realities of the Bronze Age, exploring warfare, seafaring, political intrigue and the struggle for survival while examining the historical forces behind the collapse of that era. Development has been underway for several years, with principal photography expected to begin early next year. The series will be directed by Roel Reiné, whose previous credits include Washington, Black Sails, Halo and Wu Assassins. The executive production team includes Vahagn Sargsyan of USATV, Jordan Dykstra, Denisa Juhos, Karl Gajdusek, Sean Finegan, Scott Windhauser, Noah Lang, Blake Hoss, Roel Reiné, and Dionysis Samiotis of Tanweer Productions. "We want to tell this epic story in a way that is as authentic and historically grounded as possible," Gajdusek said. "Odysseus' journey in Homer's work carries symbolic meaning, but it is also rooted in real human experiences, choices, loss and resilience." Jordan Dykstra said the team has been working on the project for nearly five years. According to him, the goal is to offer audiences the most authentic and compelling portrayal possible of the ancient Hellenic world. Ara Aivazian said Azerbaijan continues the traditions of Turkey after seizing territories and forced Armenians out. The creative crew of the Public TV had chosen 13-year-old Malena as a participant of this year's contest. She called on others to also suspend their accounts over the companies’ failure to tackle hate speech. Penderecki was known for his film scores, including for William Friedkin’s “The Exorcist”, Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining”. Partner news |
