Marie Yovanovitch: U.S supports the process of normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations

PanARMENIAN.Net -
The U.S. supports the process of normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations, Marie Yovanovitch, the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia, said during public debate on Armenian-Turkish relations and cross-border regionalism.

The U.S. ambassador expressed hope that the parliaments of two countries will ratify the Armenian-Turkish Protocols in the near future. According to her, opening of the Armenian-Turkish border will have a positive impact on economies of the two countries.

"Today, the existence of closed borders is rather an exception than the norm," Amb. Yovanovitch said. “No one forgets the past, but it is necessary to look into the future," she emphasized, adding that no country should not depend on a single transport corridor.

RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said for his part that closed borders between the neighboring countries in the 21st century is nonsense. “The Armenian-Turkish relations will be normalized sooner or later,” he said.

The Prime Minister also said that if the Turkish parliament ratifies the Protocols, there would be no obstacle to do the same for the Armenian parliament.
