Artak Zakaryan: agreements with Russia protect Armenia from outside threats

PanARMENIAN.Net - South Caucasus remains involved in the international processes, an Armenian politician said.

“In terms of security, the Armenians-Russian agreements are important to maintain balance in the region and protect Armenia from outside threats,” said MP Artak Zakaryan, member of the Republican Party of Armenia. “It’s not a secret that Azerbaijan presents the main threat for regional security.”

As to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s statement that the responsibilities of the Russian military base will not change, Zakaryan noted, “Mr. Lavrov could not say that Russia will supply Armenia with arms to prevent any aggression from Azerbaijan. However, he made it clear that the main task of the base is to ensure regional stability.”
