Tigran Sargsyan: new aerial tramway, as a unique engineering solution, will soon become a tourist attraction

PanARMENIAN.Net - The new aerial tramway, as a unique engineering solution, will soon become a tourist attraction, promoting the development of interstate tourism, according to Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.

At the opening of the world's longest reversible passenger aerial tramway constructed within Tatev Revival Project framework, the Prime Minister spoke of a number of tourism development programs covering the cities of Dilijan, Sevan and Tsakhkadzor. “Construction of new affordable hotels, as well as an international sports complex will help increase tourist inflow to Armenia,” the Prime Minister pointed out in a conversation with PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

As Sargsyan noted with regret, the global crisis negatively affected Armenian economy, causing many projects to be suspended. “Current uncertainty is the consequence of global economy fluctuations. An annual growth of 3% in global economy will spell 10-15% increase in Armenia, leading us to our goal of 3 million tourist inflow in 6 to 7 years,” the Prime Minister said.

On October 16, 2010, the Tatev Revival Project was launched in Tatev, Syunik province of Armenia, marked by the official inauguration of the world's longest reversible passenger aerial tramway.

Titled the Wings of Tatev, this engineering miracle spanning 5.7 km over the deep and picturesque Vorotan River Gorge, connects the two stations between two villages just as the Tatev Revival Project will bridge the past legacy of the Tatev monastery with the promising future of the region.

The President characterized Tatev Revival Project as a significant component in governmental strategy for balanced development of Armenian regions, also stimulating economic, scientific and cultural life of Syunik.
