ACCORDING TO ROBERT KOCHARIAN ARMENIA-EU RELATIONS HAVE REACHED A NEW QUALITATIVE LEVEL

PanARMENIAN.Net - YEREVAN, June 4. /Mediamax/.љ “The Agreement about partnership and cooperation of Armenia with the European Union (EU), in force since July 1999, has brought our relations to a new qualitative level,” Armenian President Robert Kocharian said today in the exclusive interview to Mediamax.

Armenian President starts his visit to the headquarters of the European Union (EU) in Brussels on Tuesday, during which he will hold meetings with the leadership of EU, European Commission and Europarliament.

“Europe has clearly showed that prosperity and security are tightly connected with the democratic system of government and strict observance of human rights. We build our state based on these principles, and the close cooperation with European structures is very important in the achievement of these aims,” Robert Kocharian told Mediamax.

The president noted that within the frames of the agreement about partnership and cooperation with the European Union, Armenia has begun a program of harmonization of its legal norms and practice with EU standards. With the support of European institutions Armenia consistently pursues a policy aimed at the economic liberalization, reform of state government, President Kocharian said.

“Armenia’s accession to the Council of Europe this January was the acknowledgement of our success in this direction. It’s a turning-point which gave a new impulse to our relations with Europe and will assist further integration of our country into European structures”, Armenian President noted. --0--
