BISHKEK PROTOCOL WAS THE ONLY REAL ACHIEVEMNT IN KARABAKH SETTLEMENT, SECRETARY OF NKR SECURITY COUNCIL SAYS

PanARMENIAN.Net - YEREVAN, May 7. /Mediamax/. "The Bishkek protocol was the only real achievement in the Karabakh settlement," Secretary of Security Council of Nagorno Karabakh Republic /NKR/ Karen Baburian said in his interview to Mediamax.

Armenia, Azerbaijan and NKR signed a protocol on May 5, 1994 in Bishkek under the aegis of CIS Inter-Parliament Assembly. On its bases, the conflict parties concluded an ceas-fire on May 12th, 1994. From the NKR party this document was signed by Karen Baburian, then acting Chairman of Nagorno Karabakh Parliament.

The cease-fire became possible only after participation of Nagorno Karabakh as a full party of negotiations, according to Baburian.

He said that it was thanks to the Bishkek protocol that at the OSCE summit in Budapest, 1994, was adopted a document which allowed NKR to contend that it was a conflict party. --0--
