NKR EX DEFENSE MINISTER HAS NO MENTAL DISEASES, MEDICAL EXPERTS SAY

PanARMENIAN.Net - 15.01.2001, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. On January 15 the results of the complex judicial-medical examination, realized last April to determine the sanity of the accused, were read out at the court session of the terrorist act against NKR President.

As the correspondent of Mediamax, according to the examination results, the main accused of the case Samvel Babayan doesn't suffer from any chronic mental diseases, he is fully conscious and his replies to the given questions are quite logical. The examination observed his strong striving for power; besides, according to the conclusion of the medical experts, Babayan regards the idea of disobeying his orders as unconceivable.

Samvel Babayan disagreed with the part of the examination denoting that he regretted what had happened. Babayan declared he wasn't asked about the terrorist act while being examined by special committee including experts from Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh. The accused spoke with the solicitation to invite one of the members of the committee as a witness. The court complied with the request, deciding to invite the chairman of the medical committee.

Afterwards the results of the examination of accused Sasun Aghajanian, David Gulian, Varuzhan Melkumian, Eric Faramazian and Levon Mirzoyan were announced. No pathological diseases and temporal metal disorders were observed during their examination. According to the conclusion of the examination, Sasun Aghajanian, accused of being the organizer and the direct executor of the terrorist act, said he was fulfilling S. Babayan's order, but he didn't throw the grenade at the presidential car as it was planned before, because he didn't want NKR President to die.

S. Aghajanian said at today's session that he didn't remember anything of what had been said and referring to his headache and bad health condition, asked the court to refrain from any further questions. His lawyer E. Aghajanian also insisted on inviting to the court the medical committee members, who examined the accused.

The examination stated that the accused confirmed S. Babayan ordered them to kill NKR President. The accused were sure Samvel Babayan would provide their impunity. -0-
