Catholicos of All Armenians to leave for Georgia on June 10

PanARMENIAN.Net - Catholicos of All Armenians, His Holiness Karekin II will meet with Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II as part of his visit to Georgia on June 10-15.

Relations of the Armenian Apostolic Church and Georgian Orthodox Church will be discussed during the visit. Karekin II will also visit Javakhk region populated by Armenians, Metropolitan Gerasim Sharashenidze of Zugdidi and Tsaishi told Pirweli agency.

“At this stage, I cannot say anything about disputable matters of the churches. Topics to be discussed will become clear after the delegation’s arrival, when negotiations start. As for determination of the legal status, it is the state’s prerogative. Meanwhile, the Georgian patriarchate is not against obtainment of status by the Armenian, Catholic and Judaist communities in Georgia,” Metropolitan Gerasim said.

This will be the first visit of the Armenian Catholicos to Georgia over the past 100 years, Blagovest Info reported. -AH-
