Armenian Transport Ministry, WB discuss $40mln. credit programJune 28, 2011 - 14:51 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Minister of Transport and Communication Manuk Vardanyan met with head of the World Bank Armenia Country Manager Jean Michel-Happi. According to Michel-Happi, presently the transmission from social anti-crisis programs to agriculture development projects is under way, namely, direct assistance to farmers, improvement of irrigation systems and infrastructures, which also stipulates presence of high quality highways. In this context, the parties discussed a $40-million program on improvement of vital highways. For his part, Mr. Vardanyan stressed that the Ministry specialists already started examining roads, to decide on possibility of construction of roads connecting highland and remote villages. The Minister also emphasized necessity of funding the program of main highways, particularly, North-South Corridor which is of regional importance and two highways leading to the Georgian border, the agreement on which was reached earlier with the WB and European Investment Bank. During the meeting, the parties also discussed issues of providing technical support by WB in organization and announcement of a tender on transmission of Armenian car parks to concessional administration. With this regards, Michel-Happi said that this issue is under discussion at WB, the ministerial press office reported.
