Russia develops new weapons to replace Kalashnikov assault rifles

PanARMENIAN.Net - Izhmash has launched development of new generation automatic weapons, based on a method principally different from that used in Kalashnikov assault rifle.

According to acting General Director of Izhmash Maxim Kuzyuk, the new platform will make competition with modern analogues of small arms possible.

Parallel to the development of a new rifle, the plant will continue modernization of AK 200 rifles.

Russian forces stared AK 200 rifles' purchase in spring 2010, Itar-Tass reported.
