Mubariz Akhmedoglu: U.S., Russia prepare new variant of Karabakh conflict settlement

PanARMENIAN.Net - Visit of Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to Washington pursues aim to coordinate a new variant of Nagorno Karabakah settlement basic principle, according to head of Political Innovations and Technologies Center Mubariz Akhmedoglu.

“After failure of the Kazan summit, Russia and the United States intend to put into agenda a new variant supposing withdrawal from the existing document theses failed in Kazan and to keep those provisions around which agreement can be reached for sure,” SalamNews quoted Akhmedoglu as saying.

The political expert noted that co-chairs intend to put this renewed document to the negotiations table during the next meeting between Presidents.

“But today, it may be stated in advance that Armenia will not agree on this variant, let alone Azerbaijan”, Azeri political expert said.

Akhmedoglu also said that presently U.S. and France spare no efforts to oust Russia from talks.

The main objective here may be delay of status-quo so that to use Nagorno Karabakh conflict for own purposes in future, for example, to provoke tension on North Caucasus, according to the political analyst.

“At the same time, U.S. and France are not interested in total refusal of Medvedev from mediation, willing to create conditions dooming a certain document on Karabakh resolution to be signed anyway,” Akhmedoglu said.

“That is, being targeted at signing of a document only, they do not want actual resolution. Russia trying to preserve ‘its face’ after failure of the meeting in Kazan, now introduces a new variant of basic principles for coordination of which Lavrov starts to U.S.,” the political scientist said as reported by AZE.az.

The summit between Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia in Kazan on June 24 completed without an agreement on basic principles of Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement. Later on Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbanian noted that no agreement was reached during the meeting, as the Azerbaijani leader attempted to impose 10 new proposals.
