UNWTO expert says Armenia and Georgia safer than many other countriesJuly 12, 2011 - 14:03 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia and Georgia are safer than many other countries in the world, said UNWTO Sustainability Change Manager Ellen Bermann. “I am impressed by a rich tourist potential of the country and I believe that tourists will necessarily want to visit Armenia,” Bermann told a news conference in Yerevan. In the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding on Initiative of tourism development in the South Caucasus region signed between Armenian Ministry of Economy and UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), volunteers from Georgia are in Armenia now to start implementation of the regional program. Touching upon implementation of the program, the expert stressed that political conflicts will not affect it; just the opposite, the program will create favorable conditions for their resolution. Director of UNWTO Temis foundation volunteer program Luca Mannocchi, in turn, pointed to significance of raising countries competitiveness not separately but at a regional level. “Success of one country will be the gain for another and vice versa. The competitiveness is being coordinated here,” said Mannocchi. As regards disadvantages in the tourism field, the guests noted closed borders and lack of road signs, which help tourists travel alone, not being lost.
