MG co-chairs to arrive in Yerevan July 18July 13, 2011 - 19:35 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs Bernard Fassier of France, Robert Bradtke of the United States, and Igor Popov of Russia will arrive in Yerevan on July 18, according to Press Secretary of Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tigran Balayan. During the visit the mediators for Karabakh will meet with President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian. According to Azeri-Press Agency, the mediators will arrive in Baku on July 14. It was planned that co-chairs will visit Karabakh as well, but they dropped the plans due to NKR President Bako Sahakyan being on short-term leave. The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.
