PM explains growing migration by Armenian people’s mobilityJuly 22, 2011 - 18:23 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan commented on migration and demographic issues in Armenia during a panel meeting with the representatives of Writers’ Union of Armenia in Aragatsotn province. At his visit to Armenia’s Aragatsotn province, the Prime Minister was accompanied by Armenian Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan and the president of the Writers’ Union of Armenia Levon Ananyan. As Mr. Sargsyan noted at the meeting, migration is in the focus of Armenian government’s attention, as the country’s been facing serious demographic issues since 1991. “The resident population number in Armenia comprises 3 mln; the number of Armenians abroad exceeds the figure twice. The data cited testifies to the mobility of Armenian people, who’re given favorable conditions for free travel,” he said. The Minister also explained insufficient number of employment opportunities as a reason behind migration growth According to Prime Minister, in December 2010, Armenian government approved the migration policy strategy, with goals and priorities clearly specified. “We have to curb the migration upsurge to achieve positive results,” the PM stressed.
