MP: Baku anchors hopes with Armenian emigration![]() PanARMENIAN.Net - Both Azerbaijan and Turkey hope that they will be able to resolve the Nagorno Karabakh conflict in their favor due to the increasing emigration from Armenia, an independent Armenian MP said. “Armenia should keep it mind,” Vardan Khachatryan told a press conference in Yerevan. “With the ongoing blockade, Azerbaijan and Turkey hope to deteriorate the economic situation in Armenia and thus cause great emigration flows.” As to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s refusal to participate in the CIS summit scheduled for early September, Khachatryan said the Azeri leader has unsettled problems, including the public discontent with constant threats to start a war. “Azerbaijan wants to squeeze as much as possible from the talks. However, there are no cases in international practice when the defeated side got what it wanted through negotiations,” the MP added. ![]() The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing the latter launched in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now. Stepan Safaryan says Prosperous Armenia’s decision doesn’t change anything, as it won’t become opposition. Ismail Safi urged Armenia and Turkey, as well as third countries to adopt a constructive approach to problems. Aram Sargsyan deemed the current intrigue between Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and Prosperous Armenia illogical.
