Turkey uses Syria to secure position in Islamic world, expert says

PanARMENIAN.Net - An Iranian studies expert commented on recent statement by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, promising support to Kurds in case of Turkey’s attack on Syria.

“Ahmadinejad’s threats can’t be viable. Rather, they aim to scare Turkey and demonstrate Iran’s adherence to Syria, should the necessity arise to prove it,” Mher Baghdasaryan told a news conference in Yerevan. “However, I don’t believe Iran will be actually capable of supporting Syria,” the expert said.

Turkologist Andranik Ispiryan was also skeptical over the possibility of Turkey’s attack on Syria. “By taking sides with the international community, Ankara merely aims to prove itself the leader of the Islamic world. Factually, Turkey is using Syria to secure its position,” the expert concluded.
