Crescenta Valley Armenians commemorate 9/11 victims

PanARMENIAN.Net - On the morning of September 11, 2011, representatives of the Crescenta Valley Armenian Community and Youth Center participated in a commemorative event held at the local Glendale Fire Station to honor the fire fighters, rescuers and police officers on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11, Asbarez reported.

The CV Armenian Community Center Chairman, Arick Gevorkian presented a “Certificate of Honor” to Fire Captain Rudolph Woody in sympathy and appreciation and in sacred memory of all the brave fallen Fire Fighters, Police Officers & Rescuers who perished in honor on September 11, 2001.

Later at 8 a.m,. the representatives joined the community ceremony at Twin Strike Park in Crescenta Valley where more than 100 people came out to mark the anniversary of the tragedy. The ceremony was organized by the Crescenta Valley Town Council and the members of the American Legion, Veterans of the Foreign Wars, CV Chamber of Commerce, Homenetmen Shant Chapter Scouts, Crescenta Valley Armenian Apostolic Church, the Korean Federation of North Los Angeles, BSA Eagle Scout Troop and local organizations and citizens.

Homenetmen Shant Chapter Scouts conducted the flag ceremony and Father Ghevont Kirazian of the CV Armenian Apostolic Church, delivered the Invocation and Words of Inspiration. Earlier in the week the Crescenta Valley Armenian Community and Youth Center had sent letters to elected officials including Supervisor Michael Antonovich, Los Angeles City Councilmember Paul Krekorian and Crescenta Valley Town Council President Cheryl Davis.

“The Armenian American Community of Crescenta Valley will always remember the sacred memories of every rescuer who perished in honor, every act of bravery and selflessness and every family who continues to mourn and live in grief,” said the letter.
