Heritage MP: independence must be honored regardless of political views

PanARMENIAN.Net - Heritage opposition faction member Larisa Alaverdyan slammed politicians who refused to participate in Armenia’s independence 20th anniversary celebrations.

“Independence is a unique value to be honored regardless of political views,” Ms. Alaverdyan stressed.

ARF Dashnaktsutyun faction member Lilit Galstyan, in turn, expressed regret over the absence of some oppositionists at September 19 festive state dinner. “Unfortunately, the 20-year old history of the independent Armenia is fraught with intolerance, hatred and confrontations,” the MP stressed.

Former Armenian Presidents Levon Ter-Petrossian and Robert Kocharian won't attend Armenia's independence 20th anniversary celebration on September 21.

As the second President's spokesman Victor Soghomonyan stated, “Several days ago Mr. Kocharian left Armenia on private business and won't be able to attend the celebratory events.” Soghomonyan chose not to reveal further details.

According to ANC coordinator Levon Zurabyan, “The only way ANC would be at September 21 military parade is in case the parade were inspected by the first Armenian President Levon Ter-Petrossian.” “How can we celebrate with mobocracy heads? The only event we’d attend would be negotiations to release the country from their rule,” Zurabyan stressed.
