Armenia U-19 coach confesses to expecting more from the squad

PanARMENIAN.Net - The head coach of Armenia U-19 confessed to expecting more from the squad at EURO 2012 qualifier vs. Slovakia.

The 1st half of U-19 EURO 2012 qualifier vs. Slovakia ended with Armenia’s winning 2:0 score thanks to Hovhannes Hovhannisyan’s striking 2 goals. In the 2nd half, Armenia continued their confident performance showing a good ball control. However, 71 minutes in the game, Slovakia’s Jakub Vojtus scored a goal, with the game still ending in Armenia’s 2:1 victory.

“Slovakia showed a fine performance, acting as a barrier to the free movement of Armenia players. Luckily, we won. But we still have much work to do. We’ll take our best effort to win Oct 23 qualifier vs. Greece,” Varazdat Avetisyan said.

Slovakia coach Peter Gergely noted, “at the outset of the match, the quad has several chances to strike a goal, yet failed to score. Despite our waning chances for victory after a 2:0 score in the 1st half, in the 2nd half the team did their best to try and win. On the whole, I’m happy with my team. I believe a tie would have been a much more fair result for today’s match,” the coach concluded.

Slovakia vs. Andorra, Armenia vs. Greece qualifiers are due Oct 23, with Yerevan’s Republican Stadium to host Armenia squad games.

Yerevan will be hosting U-19 EURO 2012 Group 10 qualifiers Oct 21 through 26, with the group winner to make it to the next stage.
