Deputy FM, OSCE special rep. discuss Karabakh issue![]() January 26, 2012 - 14:30 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Ashot Hovakimian met with Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the South Caucasus, Ambassador Pádraig Murphy. The officials focused on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, specifically stressing the importance of promoting trust between the conflicting parties, Foreign Ministry’s press service reported. ![]() The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing the latter launched in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now. Partner news Members of all parliamentary groups, PM, Energy Minister and the chair of the Public Services Regulatory Commission were invited to participate. Vahan Hovhannisyan voiced hope that the ruling authorities acknowledge the difficulties Armenia currently faces. Prior to the vote, RPA parliamentary group leader Galust Sahakyan announced the party’s decision to vote against the bill.
