Al Pacino to receive 2011 National Medal of Arts from Obama February 11, 2012 - 13:28 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Al Pacino is among the honorees who will receive the 2011 National Medal of Arts from President Barack Obama on Monday, Feb 13, in a ceremony at the White House. According to Hollywood Reporter, the event, held at the East Room, will be live streamed on the White House website. Pacino, who starred in Dog Day Afternoon, The Godfather trilogy and Scarface, will receive the medal "for his contributions as an actor and director to American film and theater." The veteran was cited for being "an enduring and iconic figure" and "has become one of the most outstanding and accomplished American artists." Other honorees for the National Medal of Arts include painter Will Barnet, poetRita Dove, curator/philanthropist Emily Rauh Pulitzer, sculptor Martin Puryear, music vet Mel Tillis, pianis tAndre Watts and the United Service Organization. Additionally, the 2011 National Humanities Medal will be given to Kwame Anthony Appiah, John Asbery, Robert Darnton, Andrew Delbanco, Charles Rosen, Teofilo Ruiz, Ramon Saldivar, Amartya Sen and National History Day.
