Expert rules out possibility of Azeri maneuvers to grow into war

PanARMENIAN.Net - Military expert Artsrun Hovhannisyan named testing and boosting of fighting capacity of Azeri armed forces as the two major goals maneuvers conducted by Azerbaijan near border with Nagorno Karabakh Republic pursue.

However, he refrained from providing precise information on scenario of the exercises, which are dubbed “unprecedented” by Azerbaijani media outlets.

The expert further noted that maneuvers are being held in winter, reminding of defeats Azeri army suffered in wintertime during national-liberation movement in Karabakh.

Mr. Hovhannisyan stressed the possible linkage between maneuvers and visits of Turkish top officials to Azerbaijan, whilst ruling out the likelihood of the exercises to develop into a war with Armenia due to forthcoming political developments in Azerbaijan, as well as the combat readiness of Azeri armed forces.

Dwelling on ceasefire violations, the expert noted that Azerbaijan needs no special reason for breaching the truce.
