RA Ombudsman, PACE President discuss human rights protection in South CaucasusMay 13, 2010 - 14:48 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - On May 13, Armenian Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan received a delegation led by President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Mr. Mevlut Cavusoglu to discuss challenges faced by Armenia and the region in human rights protection field. Stressing the role of Ombudsman in fulfillment of Armenia’s commitments to the Council of Europe, Mr. Cavusoglu said it is important to implement CoE recommendations, including improvement of the RA Electoral Code and reformation of the judicial system. Referring to challenges in the human rights protection, Armen Harutyunyan pointed out to the importance of formation of tolerance both inside the country and through the region. He added that securing of solidarity and stability in the region is the main guarantee of human rights protection. The PACE President informed that constitutional reforms will be carried out in Turkey in the near future, as a result of which Ombudsman’s institute will be established in the country, the press service of the RA Ombudsman reported.
