Manvel Sargsyan: recognizing NKR, Armenia will finally determine its statusSeptember 30, 2010 - 16:07 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian Center for National and Strategic Research hosted Thursday a discussion on expediency of recognition of independence of Artsakh republic by Armenia. According to Manvel Sargsyan, senior expert of the center, recognizing NKR independence, Armenia will finally determine its status. “The authorities’ position on the issue is divergent. However, the opinion that recognition of NKR will hamper the peace process evidences that either people are completely unaware of the problem or they are afraid to take any step for the purpose,” he said. Heritage party member Stepan Safaryan said for his part disagreed with the opinion that recognition of Nagorno Karabakh by Armenia may cause resumption of hostilities. “The Armenian authorities have repeated that it’s not time foe recognition since 1992. I want to ask: when will the time come?” he said. Heritage party board member Ruben Hakobyan stated that the best way to bring Artsakh back to talks is recognition of its independence. “After occupation of Northern Cyprus, Turkey recognized its independence and pushed it forth as a party to negotiations,” he reminded.
