New law protects freedom of assembly

PanARMENIAN.Net - The draft law on meetings, demonstrations and rallies differs from the operating one, Armenian Ombudsman said.

“The new law is aimed to protect the right to hold rallies,” Armen Harutyunyan told journalists on November 9.

“According to the draft law, if the authoritative body doesn’t respond to the notification of the rally organizers, they are entitled to hold it. If the relevant body rejects conduction of a rally, it is obliged to organize a hearing on the issue,” he said.

Harutyunyan informed that the draft has been already examined by the Venice Commission.
