Opposition to “occupy” Liberty Square irrespective of Yerevan city administration’s decisionNovember 12, 2010 - 16:39 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Coordinator of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) Levon Zurabyan said that the ANC sent a letter to Yerevan Mayor’s Office, requesting permission for organization of a rally at the Liberty Square. Rejection of the Mayor’s Office will be baseless, Zurabyan told a press conference in Yerevan. “According to article 9 of the RA Law on Meetings, Rallies, Processions and Demonstrations, the Liberty Square is not on the list of places, where organization of public events is forbidden. Paragraph 4 of article 13 of the same law reads that in response to a request the Mayor’s Office should offer another day or time for organization of the event, but at the same place, what has never been done,” said Zurabyan. He stressed that if they do not receive a “normal response” to their letter, the ANC is going to apply to a court to question the activity of the Mayor’s Office. “The Mayor’s Office should reply to the letter within 10 days,” Zurabyan said, adding that the ANC is going to “occupy” Liberty Square, irrespective of the answer.
