New Times party: Armenian authorities try to save the situation

PanARMENIAN.Net - Leader of opposition New Times party Aram Karapetyan said that actions of the Armenian authorities are aimed at saving the situation, they are not pre-election steps.

In my opinion, the authorities will not be able to save themselves after the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections, Karapetyan told a press conference.

Commenting on the current political situation in the country, he said that the authorities offer a rather interesting formula: “we are informed of everything, we are aware of everything, everything is seen and we are ready for certain changes.”

“However, the public does not know what kind of changes are envisaged,” said Karapetyan.

He noted that the situation cannot be improved through reforming the system, radical changes are needed. Specifically, he offered to fire high-ranking law enforcers, who failed to find those guilty of killing 10 people during the March 1, 2008, tragic events.

Karapetyn added with humor that the actions of the current authorities can be characterized by the slogan “everything to villages” and remind “populism.”

Member of the Republican Party of Armenia parliamentary group Hovhannes Sahakyan said for his party that villages and, especially, villagers need support. According to him, in additional to social problems in villages, villagers also have psychological problems, and all these problems need to be resolved.

Commenting on errors committed by the authorities, Sahakyan said: “The man who never made a mistake, never made anything.”
