Heritage: Armenian Genocide international soonest recognition unlikelyApril 19, 2011 - 14:58 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Head of the opposition Heritage parliamentary group Stepan Safaryan said that the situation and balance of forces in the world do not provide a ground for hopes with respect to the Armenian Genocide international recognition. “One should not pin great hopes on the Genocide international recognition, since nothing has changed. The same balance of forces, which was with respect to the Armenian-Turkish protocols and Genocide recognition is maintained also now. The status-quo is preserved,” Safaryan told a press conference in Yerevan. According to him, Turkey does not face any problems or conflicts with the world centers of power, what could allow expecting the Armenian Genocide recognition by other countries, specifically, the U.S. Safaryan believes that the Armenian-Turkish Protocols should be rejected to gain progress in the Armenian Genocide international recognition. “If we want the Armenian Genocide recognition to be put on agenda, then the Protocols should disappear from the agenda,” he said. Safaryan added that a new process is needed for the Armenian-Turkish normalization without any allusion for preconditions. “New rules of game are needed, while the old ones should be rejected,” he concluded.
