Georgia more dangerous than Turkey, sculptor says

PanARMENIAN.Net - A member of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) hopes for the visit of the Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II to Tbilisi to help resolve the problem of Armenian artifacts in Georgia.

As Karen Avagyan told a news conference in Yerevan, Georgian Orthodox Church’s seizure of the Armenian churches in Georgia, violation of the rights of Armenian Apostolic Church Georgian Diocese were repeatedly discussed and condemned.

Still, the parliamentarian urged patience, expressing hope for the issue to be resolved during the visit.

As a well-known Armenian sculptor Levon Tokmajyan noted, in turn, “Georgia poses more danger than Turkey in terms of Armenian cultural heritage destruction.”

“Turkey’s actions are obvious, while Georgia acts in secret,” he said, characterizing disregard for other nation’s cultural heritage as unacceptable.
