Authorities-ANC dialogue doesn’t betray any side’s principles, expert says

PanARMENIAN.Net - Political expert Suren Surenyants does not believe a dialogue between the authorities and the Armenian National Congress (ANC) spells betrayal to any side’s principles.

As he noted at a news conference in Yerevan, the current political situation in Armenia favors a compromise between the authorities and the opposition. Still, he said, “only the liberation of political prisoners would make the dialogue possible.”

According to Surenyants, alteration of both sides’ positions is explained by their realization that achieving their maximal goals is impossible - ANC will still play an important role at the next elections and no extraordinary elections will be announced. “The sides decided to create a ‘competitive regime’ in the country,” he noted.
