RPA member hails release of prisoners on May 28May 16, 2011 - 14:22 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Member of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) parliamentary group Gagik Melikyan hailed the possible release of those imprisoned with respect to the March 2008 events on occasion of the Republic Day marked on May 28. “It is desirable that the release takes place on May 28,” Melikyan said, adding that the problem is only juridical. He expressed hope that political caution will prevail and, due to instructions given by President Serzh Sargsyan regarding the investigation into the March 1 events, legal grounds will be created for release of those imprisoned with respect to them. Melikyan said it is not necessary to amend the legislation to release these prisoners. According to him, petitions for pardon, amnesty, etc, may serve as such legal grounds.
