Georgian Ambassador to Armenia: bilateral relations have reached highest levelMay 31, 2011 - 16:28 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Georgian Ambassador to Armenia Tengiz Sharmanashvili said the Armenian-Georgian relations have reached the highest level since the two states’ independence. “The Armenian-Georgian relations have never been at such level,” Sharmanashvili told a press conference in Yerevan. He recalled Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s statement that Armenia and Georgia lack such problems, which cannot be solved through negotiations. Sharmanashvili added that relations with other countries will not anyhow affect the friendship and cooperation between Armenia and Georgia. He also commented on the entry visa ban for a range of Armenian citizens, including parliament member Shirak Torosyan, as well as problems of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia. According to the Ambassador, any state has the right to ban entry of some people to its territory without explaining reasons behind it, as per its internal legislation, if “these persons contribute to tenseness and hamper the development of bilateral relations.” As for the fact that the Armenian Apostolic Church lacks an official status in Georgia, Sharmanashvili said other confessions also face this problem and expressed hope that it will be resolved.
