Only 1000 Argentinean Armenians out of 75 000 attend Armenian schools

PanARMENIAN.Net - Doctor of Philology, Professor Petros Bedirian visited Latin America in the framework of a program on assistance to Latin America’s Armenian community in cultural and educational issues.

“Armenian community’s knowledge of their native language is deplorable, though not through their fault. The community has no possibility to develop their educational system, with Armenian-speaking people decreasing by 80%,” Petros Bedirian told a news conference in Yerevan upon his return.

“Only 1000 Argentinean Armenians out of 75 000 attend Armenian schools,” the professor emphasized.

“Native language study is optional at Armenian schools,” Honored Artist of Armenia Arsen Grigoryan added.
