Russia's behavior of past week in the Caucasus reminds of the infamous memories of the Soviet times, when by means of arm-twisting and blackmail Moscow gained her end. Moreover, the policy of "carrot" is not even considered and the last example of it is the much-talked-of "interview" of the President of Armenia to the newspaper "Moskovskiy Komsomolets". One can only guess who ever needed to trip up the Head of the seeming strategic partner and ally on their Independence Day.

Until recently Turkey used to be the only country in the region, with which Georgia held more or less normal relations, not counting Azerbaijan. But the latest demarche of the Georgian Foreign Ministry showed that actually Official Tbilisi cannot live in harmony with her neighbors. First Georgia strained relations Armenia, then Iran, and now Turkey. It is possible that tomorrow Azerbaijan may replenish this range of "bad neighbors". Thus far Saakashvili vows fidelity to "brother Ilham", but no one knows how long he will be able to keep it. It's quite understandable that the Georgian President's steps are all directed against Russia, but consequently they are also directed against the Russian-Turkish alliance.

Losing the war against South Ossetia and driving the country into a political crisis, the President of Georgia made up his mind to regain his lost positions, which he naturally does in an old and tested method - by oppressing the Armenian population in Georgia. In a wider sense, there is nothing new going on in Georgia; Armenians have always been an unwelcome nation in this country and the Georgians follow the example of Turkey and Azerbaijan in this matter.
