ICRC holds landmine safety courses for kids in Armenia border villages

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been conducting landmine safety courses for the people, especially children of Tavush province.

In the villages of Tavush, situated near the international border with Azerbaijan, people underestimated the threats posed by mines and unexploded devices, the ICRC said.

Last year, in partnership with the Armenian Red Cross Society (ARCS), the ICRC organized 27 information sessions for residents of 16 villages, most of them teachers and schoolchildren.

“We informed them about the dangers of mine-related incidents as well as how to remain safe in case of shelling,” the Committee said.

“We also distributed leaflets to some 6,500 people, and put up posters in their villages. This year, we work with the ARCS to run a total of 32 such sessions in the 17 villages of Tavush.”
